my son told me to imagine how i would position the car to pull out from a parallel space, and do that in reverse. It's helped.

OP lots of local driving schools offer refresher courses, just takes money and time. There is a youtube video that I ran across that gives you a really easy way to learn how to parallel park. Has to do with lining up your side view mirrors with the back bumper of the car you intend to park behind.

Backing in is dangerous for all of those around the people trying to back in. If you are following them or walking and think they are turning into a spot and then suddenly they start backing up! So obnoxious. They say it's faster, but you give up the same amount of time trying to park that you save when pulling out.

I got my license at 16 — then went to college and grad school in cities where having a car was a liability. When I moved to another city for work, I invested in driving lessons. So: yes. It was money and time very well spent.

I Drive Smart. I took a few lessons with them on the beltway. I'm sure they'll be happy to teach you how to parallel park.

You can definitely contact a driving school to take some lessons targeted in this area

Drive around looking for one parallel parked car and no other cars. First just learn how to pull in behind that car. That way you at least are learning how close to get to the curb. Then do a lap around and try pulling next to it, and back in. With no cars behind it, and a feel for how close to get to the curb, it shouldn't be too hard. Watch videos on Youtube first. You may have to go to a rural area to practice or a large empty parking lot with a couple cones.

As a young person I was not a confident driver but my dad took me and a couple of cones to a school parking lot and practiced parallel parking for two or three hours and I got the formula. You needed to know how to do it to pass the test. To this day I think of him when I parallel park.

I would ask for hourly instruction at a driving school or ask a friend to practice with you. It's a rote skill and not hard to get.

….specifically for parallel parking. This is so embarrassing but I CANNOT do it. I recently moved and I’m tired of having to park blocks away because I can’t get into any spots.

Recommendations? I’m so frustrated.
