My brother didn't even realize that his loans were forgiven until he tried to start paying again after the pause and needed to contact the loan servicer to set up direct payments!

Nothing wrong with that. They did their time at a public service, lower paying job for the amount of time required to get it forgiven. Then they smartly chose to move on and get a better paying job.

Yes, a friend. She is incredibly grateful that 30 years after getting out of college, and having paid more than double what she borrowed, she can finally put that money towards something else.

I got my loans forgiven via PSFL. I was a fed for 12 years before it was approved, and I still have no clue why it wasn't approved when I submitted during years 10 and 11. But Year 12 was the right one.

I know quite a few public service folks who had theirs forgiven through PSLF. Thrilled for them and grateful for their dedication to public service!

Yes. My cousin. She posted about it on FB so I don't know all the details. She was closing in on 50 when it was forgiven so there's that.

I heard of somebody with huge old debt who got her debt proactively retired.

She probably could have paid it but seemed to have preferred student loan interest rates to other options.

Pretty much a lottery win.
