If a student takes Physics-Astronomy and does well in the class in 11th AND wants to take an additional physics class in high school (not Montgomery college), what is the next physics class you'd recommend?

Astronomy with Physics—> Honors Physics
Honors Physics—> AP Physics C concurrent with (or after) AP BC Calculus. Otherwise AP Physics 1 if interested in Engineering. Otherwise Astronomy with Physics for a high interest, relatively easy elective senior year.

Taught AP Physics for a while - I love the Flipping Physics videos - they cover complicated issues in depth and with a clarity that few can match. Though dorky as heck. I also like Dan Fullerton's website for covering topics cleanly and in detail - his book is AP Physics 1 Essentials.

That's a nice comparison document. Two notes to add.
1. Some high schools don't have pre-req of Honors Physics prior to AP Physics C.
2. College board is revising AP Physics 1, 2, and C tests next year (2024-25). C will be longer.

Why are there so many threads on AP Physics

Content overlaps? The AP being college level is probably faster paced, does it cover any topics in depth?

Any other Physics class I didn't list?

From least to most math, target population 11th graders, lowest math class as co-req:
Astronomy with Physics - Algebra 2
Honors Physics - Precalc
AP Physics 1 - Honors Precalculus (but skip if student will get to BC Calc)
IB Physics 1 - AB Calc
AP Physics C - BC Calc

Keep in mind, it is not mainly that the physics course uses that particular level of math. It’s just that the math level is a pretty good indication of student readiness for abstract reasoning and more complex problem solving.

+1
So many great channels for physics instruction on YouTube.

Yes, he expects the students to be able to teach themselves. The only resource was an AP Classroom progress check but she still hasn't learned power yet so I'm not sure how that'd be helpful.

DD has a test in ap physics next week. With all the show days, some of the topics that will be covered on the test haven't been taught during instructional time. Any resources you all recommend? They are currently learning Work, Energy, and Power. Thanks.
