It won't and she can always rush again next year if she wants to. At that point, she'll know the options better and have friends who can help pull her into their sororities. I will tell you though that tonights cuts are the harshest but the good news is that she is basically guaranteed a bid from where she goes to pref, if she wants it.

honestly I have had two in the greek system at UVA over the years and these posts happen EVERY year, like clockwork, more so now that you can post anonymously. I have not actually seen one as bad as the one who posted her DS didn't get into the "top 1-4 frats", only the "5-10" frats (out of like 30+ frats btw). Totally and complete shocked at how some people think. It's sad.

My DD did have a tough rush when she rushed, but you know what, she sucked it up, continued on and ended up at the sorority that she loved from the start, even though it was not the most popular and her hallmates went elsewhere. You have to go through the rounds, meet as many girls as you can, then decide. Kids that drop out after the first round because they didn't get "top tiers"? Ridiculous.

So ... some of y'all who frequent DCUM are "shocked" that some parents seem involved in their DC's attempt at rushing "top tier" houses? What rock have you been under?

If you think chatting in a Facebook group is being involved, you would be shocked by what parents down at the big state schools where greek life is really huge.

Hiring a rush consultant isn't unusual and at some schools, parents are there during rush (and definitely on bid day).

Just curious. Why do you care whether or not PPs daughter joins a sorority?

I’m beginning to think the whole thing is a big money scam, with some of these groups desperate for any members that can pay.

Op here - I’m so sorry - I heard from my son that this process is much harder on females than males. All the best for your daughter and I hope she finds the right fit here or through other activities

Get used to it. There are always people who won’t say publicly but they think of the Greek houses in tiers. I believe there’s a website that even ranks them by school.

From my uva days, the top sororities were kkg, tri delt, theta, and pi phi. Doubt it’s changed much. Fraternities had a similar pecking order.

Hi is anyone with a kid at UVA following the parent posts on FB? I’m shocked that parents use terms like “top tier” frat and how they can’t believe their kid did not get into a top frat. It reminds me of when I was in high school 30 years ago and there were the popular kids. Anyway I just want to tell them that my kid who never had many friends is loving rush and when I asked him about these top tier frats his response is that the top tier is the one that’s right for you.
