You can't just take an hour to take them?

Op - presumably there won’t be many cars on the road so kids could just walk down to the sledding hill. They would have to cross 2 streets (not busy) in our neighborhood.

4 year old does listen to older siblings. Unless I strap him down with duct tape he would never sit home when they leave. At that rate I would just have to go too since I couldn’t work with him screaming at home for them.

9 year old will have a great time. Alone. No babysitting duties.

4 is too young. Sledding can be dangerous because kids do impulsive things and don't see objects that could harm them at the bottom of the hill.

Are the 9 and 7 year olds responsible and do they behave when unsupervised? There are kids in my neighborhood who are that age and fine to go out by themselves, will stay on the sidewalk/grass and not walk on the street, etc. But have absolutely zero concept of behavior when unsupervised. They take stuff from little kids, they don’t take turns when needed, they push/shove. At any rate, I wouldn’t let the older ones take the younger one out alone - that’s a lot of responsibility for two ES kids.

Op - this ends up being a nightmare because my 4 year old will never sit at home if his sisters leave to go sledding.

Will I get in trouble if I send them with the 4 year old? My husband has a full day of work and I also have work today.

It depends on the neighborhood. 7 in a group would be fine in ours, but there are always parents with younger kids and everyone knows everyone if there is a problem

I agree, nine and seven is fine, but I don’t think it’s quite fair to have a nine-year-old in charge if something happens with the four-year-old.

9 taking 7 yes, but no to the 4 year old going with them.

Small hill with a gizmo watch in case of emergency? Send the big kids but keep the 4 year old at home.

I’m not sure I would send a four-year-old off. My kids love sledding and I let them run off but I know there’s a lot of injuries that happened on our sledding hill. One kid got his ear sliced!

Too young. I took my kids sledding the other day and watched kids go down head first and take some tumbles. Too much could go wrong.

Both DH and I have to telework from home today. At what age would you be comfortable letting your kids go sledding (super small hill about 0.5 miles away from the house) by themselves? Can I let my almost 9 year old take my 7 and 4 year old? She has a Gizmo watch that she can call me from if needed.

I have worked 2 days this week and really need to get some work done today. Kids obviously want to go sledding.
