Op here. The tolls are the painful part, the 15 min just adds salt to the wound.

As usual, employers can do almost anything that they want without compensating you and employees are free to ask for whatever they want to ask for. The question is simply who has the leverage.

That aside, can anyone report on successful requests in this type of situation?

Can anyone report on something an employer offered in this situation?

Ah, the toll road question. If you are a Fed, you have to suck it up. If you don’t need to take the toll road to go to your assigned duty station, then you can put in for reimbursement or get a gov car to travel to the other location for a meeting. If travel to your assigned duty station involves taking the toll road, then it’s considered part of your standard commuting costs and you pay it. If you are a contractor you can try to get something from you company, but I doubt they’ll do it.

Ask for them to provide you an EzPass that they fund for your commute.

It’s literally not possible. Not every single job can be done from home…

My office is moving to a new location in a couple of months. The move will add about 15 min in each direction, but more importantly, about $7k in tolls (the new location would be prohibitively far on normal roads). Due to the nature of the work, it is 5 days in office and there is no flexibility on that.

I’m a valued, experienced member of my team and we have already started losing people who live even further away and just can’t stomach it. What would you feel is reasonable to ask for in this situation?
