Do not trust Fitzgeralds has the lowest price just because they don’t haggle. Surely the price will beat other dealers initially but you can almost always get other dealers lower. We have done it with our last 3 vehicles.

As sorta said with MD, VA dealers seem to have a $1k processing fee basically everywhere. Just a cash grab. Generally I tell them to cut $1k off the car or I walk (and I've walked when they said no).

When I looked at buying a car in Moco, the dealership wasn't interested in dealing. I think they had a lot more people on the list waiting for a car (subaru). So, I went to Fairfax, and got the exact car I wanted. I will say the guy who sold me the car was clueless, though.

Thank you. So does it follow that if I find a dealership that has more of the cars I want in stock, I'll get a better deal?

Potentially, yes. You can get a good deal on sedans right now - people don’t want them.

Another time to get a good deal is when they have previous year’s models on the lot right after they received the newest year’s model.

For Subaru, that’s in September of each year. The new models arrive and they are desperate to clear out the old stock of cars. Go on the last day of August when they are trying to hit their numbers for that month

Thanks, I appreciate your response. Unfortunately I need to buy a car in the next week or two, latest.

Fitzgerald dealerships don’t haggle, they just offer the lowest price - that’s their whole schtick.

I got my Subaru at Fitzgerald in late 2019 for $7K below MSRP. That’s what they offered and I took it.

Thanks for this tip. I see a Fitzgerald Hyundai, but no Kia dealership. I'm interested in the kia sorrento.

Dealerships in either state will charge you the DC car tax and they remit it to DC government + get you registered and tags. So no savings there on that.

Biggest point of savings is if you can find a deal deep into Virginia, MD, WV, or PA. You might need to drive a couple hundred miles, but if its a $4K savings then its a no-brainer.

Thanks, this is very helpful.

We live in DC and are planning on purchasing a new car in the next few days if I can find the one I want. Are there any advantages to buying in MD vs. VA?
