I just had to go by a computer last week. I was let go from my job and when I turned in my work computer, I realized I had nothing to make a resume or job search on.

I guess an iPad with a Bluetooth keyboard is okay, but many things are just way better on a computer if you are creating anything. If all you is consume content, then yeah iPad is fine.

But im a weird GenX techie with 3 personal laptops (one uber cheap and small Chromebook for travel, one Linux laptop in living space for quick look ups and and bill pay, and MacBook for doing family photo projects and archiving documents for whole family, and an iPad).

I question any agency or company telling people to do work from a personal laptop in the year 2024. Most companies have citrix based solutions to permit this but still very strange in todays age.

You shouldn't be using a personal computer for work.

I don't have a home computer. I'm not a luddite either. I have an ipad and an iphone. I use my work laptop very rarely at home for personal things. I'm not sure what people need a personal laptop for.

OK- that is different. You could bring the laptop home in the event of bad weather. This is a person that has no ability to get on the internet when she isn't at work. That is ..... just.... weird af in 2024. That's like not having a cell phone.

Neither my husband nor I have a personal home computer. And we both work in the software/tech industry. We are just so used to using our work laptops, never had the need to buy one.

+1 Also from a security standpoint, I would not be encouraging my employees to use their personal laptops.

My employer permits telework when the Fed allows it due to inclement weather. A new hire did not touch any work on Tuesday when we had all that snow. So, in anticipation of tomorrow's event, our manager just sent an email out asking everyone to confirm their ability to field emails and work orders remotely.

She replied that she didn't have a computer at home It's 2024. What does that tell you about her?
