Sledding for 2 hrs and watched their device for the rest of the day. Not proud of it but it is what it is. For anyone else reading out there in a similar boat it's not all rainbows and unicorns on snow days, most people need to get sh!t done even when it snows.

The post literally said she refused to go sledding. They tried! My kids were the same yesterday.

Not all enjoy being in the freezing cold.

Can’t you read? Her kid refused to go sledding.

On Tuesday my husband and I traded back and forth to take the kids sledding with a friend. Friend came over later to make and eat cookies and play in the basement.

Wednesday was trickier- one child had an appointment that wouldn’t have been easy to reschedule and the doctors office was open so one parent did that which took up a few hours with the driving. Other parent took a phone call while the other child watched tv then played games. I insisted on a few chores because we had whining about being bored. Then lunch at home and some more card games- both kids did not want to play in the snow at all - it was very icy near us yesterday. They went to childcare for a few hours in the afternoon and had a good time (apparently played video games with friends, oh well).

After my DCUM break I’m going to get to work moving as many meetings scheduled for tomorrow as I can since it’s looking like we will have another “rare” snow day tomorrow.

Hung out with the kids. Made cocoa and cookies for them, read aloud snow-themed picture books, watched them make snow angels and a snowman, get in snowball fights, sled on our hill, and hike a little bit in the woods. Perfect couple of days.

My kids went ice skating on MLK day, sledding on Tuesday, and went to a climbing gym yesterday. We have an au pair that took them to do stuff the days I had to work.

Second grade girl. Played with neighbors all day, in their yards, our yard, their basements, our basement. Neighborhood is wealthy so people have nannies and at least one parent in each household can take half or entire day off to keep an eye on the kids.

DP. What a shame you couldn't either come up with a reply that wasn't "Gosh, what a bad parent you are!" or refrain from a reply. It's always an option to just not reply.

Most people had to work. How is that such a foreign concept to DCUMers?

I’m sure that was troll reply.

Second grade girl: Tuesday she sledded for a bit and then got snow in her gloves and came in. Wednesday She sledded in the morning and again after I was done with work, for longer. We played some board games. We watched the 2017 My Little Pony movie in the afternoon both days. Mostly she read books: a book about famous and inspiring cats and D'Aulaires Book of Greek Myths.

Inspired by the mom whose kids made “snow angels” all day… here’s what my kid did:

2nd grader. She went outside for an hour on Tuesday and played in the yard. Refused to go sledding. Then came in because she was cold. She then watched her tablet, played games on her tablet (admittedly some educational ones like Prodigy because that’s largely what we allow), and made a mess of our family room building pillow forts.

Both her dad and I had to telework. And no, calling off really wasn’t an option given leadership roles and pressing deadlines.

I am very glad to send her back to school today.
