My MS child got to go to a special classroom and get extra time. I know they are untimed officially but our DC's MS rushes kids through it. If you're not done in the time they allot you don't get to retake it and you can't go back and get more time. They just tell you to wrap it up. They don't want to deal with lots of kids coming in at lunch and things like that.

The MAP test is administered 3 times a year so hopefully your child can do better on the next one.
Our school notifies us on which days the tests are and I have repeatedly told my child to take all the time he needs on this test. He was so proud this week to tell me that he was the last one in class to finish the test.

Maybe at your MS (and maybe in practice it's fine) but that absolutely is not the county policy or legal.

Educator/Testing Coordinator here- students are entitled to their accommodations on MAP although the calculator accommodation is always in debate. Also, students can easily retest and be given their legal accommodations. It’s literally just a push of a button to retest.

MAP isn’t graded and there is no time limit.

I guess it depends on the school because where I'm at the compacted math and ELC classes are actually larger than the regular 4th grade classes. The work is more challenging though.

My child also didn't get the option of a less distracted environment. And their score went down. I guess the school is ok with this drop---it will reflect on them eventually

If you're sure that specific accommodations weren't give, then I would think you can ask for a retake.

There are no testing regulations like with official state standardized testing (MCAP). And my school is testing all 6th graders this winter, but only some of the 7th and 8th graders with higher needs. So I would think the admin has flexibility on who/how/when.

Also we always pull kids who were absent, so I'd imagine there are already a bunch of kids missing class and staff are already being pulled for testing duties.

We live in Silver Spring, so the advanced classes are smaller - homerooms are about 22 kids by grade four, while CM is never more than 15.

Map testing is untimed for everyone. As for small groups, most elementary classrooms work. If kids request breaks, they are granted. I say this because, we do look at all accommodations before administering Map, but often we can meet your child’s legal needs in the homeroom class.

Map scores is only one indication for ELC/Compacted, so I wouldn’t worry about it. That said, often those advanced classes are larger, not smaller, so make sure it’s the right environment for your child.
