Ditto. Knocked my DD’s acne out within 6 months. Did wonders her confidence. Facial skin was a smooth as a newborn’s.

Honestly, my son is on it and I hate the side effects (for him, and how I remembered them for me). But it works and it’s a fairly short duration compared to a lifetime of scarring or pimples.

I came out thinking we'd do it. Then I researched it more and I am scared of side effects. I would not hesitate if his acne were truly awful and he were asking to do it, but he is on the fence as well. I also don't think he will be great about sunscreen.

The scarring is what would concern me. But, as soon as we couldn't treat the acne at home, we emailed the doctor who gave us a few things to try. I would try it.

Do it! Accutane completely changed my skin for life. My skin was also not that bad but it was scarring and painful and hard on my self esteem and other stuff didn’t touch it. Cleared up in six months and never came back. I’m now 38 and get compliments on my skin to this day. I am so grateful my mom took this seriously and helped me.

Your child already has scarring. Acne scarring doesn’t just heal. Acne worthy of accutane needs to be swiftly treat. Refusing to move forward with accutane is setting your child up to live the rest of their life with damaged skin or to spends thousands on lasers or excisions to try and repair their skin.

Do not deny them treatment to prevent future damage.

They put people on lower doses so the side effects aren’t as bad. My son took it for 6 months and he only gets the occasional pimple now a few years later.

If you keep f-ing around with all these other things and it keeps getting worse and more scarring and then you go months before deciding to finally try it and your skin is worse off than before.

Just do it.

I'm not familiar with the latter treatment. But we tried to avoid Accutane as i was scared off by the side effects some people experience. We wasted a year on various antibiotics, creams, washes, etc. etc. Finally did the Accutane and wish we had done it sooner. Cleared it right up (DC's wasnt horrible but it was affecting her confidence and making her feel awful.) Only side effect was some dry skin. Her skin is beautiful now (almost a year out from stopping it) and she's much happier.
