I'm 53 and have been suffering from hot flashes for years now. I have an electric fan right next to the bed that I turn on and off as needed. I carry a paper fan around in my purse. I never wear sweaters without a tshirt underneath so I can pull the sweater off.

I tried black cohosh and it did nothing for me. YMMV on that. I'm going to talk to my doctor about HRT this month. I'm over all of this.

I had 3 patches in a row fall off. Took them to pharmacy, turns out Menostar replaced them free was a defect
I had good luck applying patch on just showered skin (no body wash, soap on area) and being sure to press and hold it for 20 seconds. Instructions mentioned that.
I too had the adhesive left after peeling it off. I shower at least twice a day but don't take tub baths.i did swim and snorkel on vacation trips, no problem.
Used them 11 years.

HRT has many benefits including possible reduced risks of dementia and maintaining bone density.

The patch doesn’t work for a lot of people, including: people who take baths, exercise intensely, are allergic to the adhesive, etc. it’s ok to use gel or pills or the vaginal ring if that’s you!

What are you doing that the patch falls off? HRT has been amazing for me. I have the opposite problem that the patch is really sticky and I have to rub off the glue from my skin when I peel it off. Sometimes I can see the rectangle shape after peeling it off.

Estroven multi-symptom works for me. I get it at Costco.

Try Fezolinetant, the new drug for hot flashes. It is not HRT.

I don't know much about this, OP, but why does HRT seem like "going far?"

Another vote for HRT. Mine were like this last year and stopped immediately with the lowest dose patch and progesterone pill.

What is up with people acting like HRT is some massively scary thing?

Evolution decided you only need estrogen during your prime reproductive years. After that, you don’t need your health and beauty as much because you aren’t producing offspring. Therefore estrogen production is a waste of resources for the body. Without estrogen, your bones become brittle, your skin ages faster because estrogen keeps your collagen levels high. All that matters is that you live long enough to help raise grandkids while taking as few resources as possible. After that you die. That’s why we are like this. It’s because of evolution.

In the modern world, we don’t have to suffer as we age in order to preserve food and other resources for younger people. We aren’t hunter gatherers or cavemen. We have modern medical science and bioidentical estrogen and bioidentical progesterone.

Only HRT will truly make this better. It’s safe, effective, and you’ll feel good. It will dramatically improve your quality of life.

Frozen gel pack tucked in pillow at night.
Sugar and alcohol made mine worse.
Low dose Menostar patch stopped them. If it comes to that, see if you can space them out.

Drink a glass of cold water. Open the door of your freezer and stand up against it. Or, at this time of year, just go outside.

I’ve been dealing with hot flashes for 6-7 years and can’t take HRT.

About once every hour, I am having annoying, unpleasant hot flashes. Any suggestions for home remedies? Not sure I want to go as far as taking Hormone Replacement Therapy, but would love to get some relief from these sudden surges of heat that happen to me day and night, starting about 2 months ago. I’m 52. Thanks.
