I thought this was just a NY thing. Can’t count how many New Yorkers I’ve met that despise the food in DC. As they frequently say, “it’s always better back home.” I in turn always think, but don’t say “then what are you doing here if it’s so bad.”

I have been to NY plenty of times. It’s just like DC, or any major city- lots of really good food and a lot of pretty pedestrian fare. For New Yorkers, they commonly complain about pizza. It’s 2024, the secret on pizza has been out for years. It’s not hard to find a good pie in most of the U.S.

+1 Bangkok 54 Market. Great variety, there are even Thai crepes on Saturday mornings

Thanks! I tried Paedek because I had heard so many good things about it. Wasn't super impressed. But, it was when the Arlington location had first opened so may be worth another try.

I am Thai from California. My kids don’t love Thai food so we don’t go out much to eat it but we like the prepared foods at the Thai grocery store Bangkok 54 in Arlington.

I haven’t been there but Jump the Elephant in Arlington is supposed to be good. You could also try SURA, Padaek (Arlington), and Baan Siam, which are other names I’ve seen mentioned.

OP here I didn't say that. But, yes, you could get good Thai food just about anywhere in CA. I've tried lots of different Thai places here and none are that great. Too greasy or not enough flavor.
