I didn’t post about this. I’m asking not how my kid would classify it. I’m asking if there’s an essay about it, how would the school interpret it?

You can assign it whatever category you want. So put it under “activity” and then explain it well in the 120 words or whatever limited space given. Or break it into 2 - activity and volunteer (without double counting hours). Just explain it well.

How does the school differentiate between an extracurricular and volunteering when it looks at its common data set? For example, if an activity is one that a student is heavily involved in, but that activity involves volunteering does that mean that it is looked at as an extracurricular (which may be considered very important, important), or is it looked at as volunteering (which may be looked at as considered)?
