This is a media created problem. Winfrey is the producer. The producer does not set the salaries of the cast and crew. Cast and crew either get paid according to SAG-AFTRA union rates (for smaller roles) or they/their agent negotiate a contract with the studio. Even in the linked article, Winfrey says that she has no conflict with Henson. Henson's gripe is with the studio, not with the producer. The studio is the one that negotiated the contracts with the featured actors (those not covered by union rates).

Here is a different article where Winfrey says that when Henson has a problem within the producer's purview, Winfrey took care of the issue (rental cars vs drivers)

This makes disgusting sense to me. I recently traveled internationally with my BFF, who is black. She was treated terribly in a few countries, specifically Italy and Ireland. She was treated wonderfully in places where POC are more common, like the UK and France.
