My information isn’t current, but I went to Purdue and loved it. I came from the Northeast and have no clue how I chose it. The people were so friendly it shocked me on arrival. It felt like a bubble in a good way. It’s a huge school with plenty going on. Once in a while we would venture to Indianapolis or Chicago. The best part was college 2.0 as many of us ended up in Chicago after with our first jobs or law/med schools there. I was back recently as my spouse spoke there. Incredible the growth. Ironically we used to study in the brand new vet building back then. Purdue has a lot going for it, I have nothing but positives to say. The recent will you find your spouse thread struck me too. Don’t know if it was the time, the school, or my friend group, but tons of us married our significant others from college and are still going strong.

Again, dated info, but maybe a sliver of something helpful.

I have a freshman at Purdue and agree with what everyone has said. My son couldn't be happier. I have said this before but his only complaints are that the football team is bad, basketball tickets are hard to get and the gym can be crowded. It's an easy flight answer shuttle ride from the DC area.

I found Purdue to be a cinch to travel to. 1.25 hour flight out of DCA; rent car; drive up I-65 and you're there. That said I-65 absolutely suck. Truck traffic was massive. Then again what do you expect from the manufacturing center of the USA.

Honestly there is so much to do on campus and his studies keep his so busy that he rarely has to do this. People say it is hard to get to but we have not really found that to be the case. Easy flights from Indianapolis or O’Hare with 2 different on campus airport shuttle services available *or student can drive to airport like my son does and make a little money by taking a few other kids. We are more than happy with the school. The name recognition in the Engineering/CS field is huge and not only US based. There is a reason for their huge International population. Just be sure your kid is a self-starter and very strong at advocating for themselves (which, in my opinion, is a major life-skill anyway).

Kid is interested in the direct admission to vet school program. On its fav, kid has the stats to get in (good, although not the very very top, stats from a competitive FCPS high school). I am perfectly capable of using Google and will fo plenty of my own research, but am interested in what the collective wisdom of DCUM has to say about the school.
