Maybe its different now but babson was for standard, college prep, b+ a- kids in the 90s. The kids who couldn’t get into BC business.

Lol are you even from New England? Bryant is not very good. It's a safety school for most people. Bentley is pretty solid, but Babson is way far ahead of both of them.

Babson is an outstanding business school, OP - beautiful campus and beautiful town - you should check it out! I have good things to say about the alums I know - very focused and professional.

I grew up in MA. It's an awesome school with great outcomes - for the right person. A few HS classmates who went there have all done very well. But they were all strivers who would have probably done well no matter where they went.

The other two B's are decent, but not on Babson's level or even close.

Relax, that's why I asked, because no, I haven't heard of the place and so I came to a source perhaps where people had and asked. To educate myself. Yeesh.

Glad you enjoyed your time on the ranch at Deep Springs College but perhaps more quiet time is needed before you re-enter society and respond to people asking for help?

Just because YOU have never heard of a place doesn’t mean that the people doing the hiring and recruiting think it’s obscure.

The schools people “all know” often are based on sports performance which means zero unless your kid is going to the NFL or NBA.

Perfect example is Deep Springs College (they get 300 applicants a year) which 99% of people have no idea about but if you are an Ivy admissions officer it is a MAJOR DEAL to get someone coming in from there.

I had a co-worker who went there, he was very good. It left me with a favorable impression of the school.

He wasn’t from a rich family. Parents were working class immigrants.

If DC is interested in business, it seems like a very solid choice. I think the kids who go there tend to self sort and know what they want to do.

My kid is also interested. It is basically a business-only college, so you do get many children of family companies attending. My kid is interested in a business degree, but I do worry it is at an extreme.

It seems to have very good job placement results that are not just family connections. Also, I am not sure it has many Ivy rejecte…it is too obscure of a kid/family is looking for name cachet that was Ivy rejected.

It is also bigger than I thought. Nearly 4,000 students….not huge but I always assumed it was sub-2,000 before investigation.


Thanks. Yes, the all Business is a concern. I mean as a 17 year old they *think* this is what they want to do but do they really know know? They are taking IB Business now and seem to really enjoy it but I am not sure they should be "limited" just in case they get to school and find something else? Was recently talking with a Mom with a kid at University of Maryland that is majoring in Fire Saftey or something like that. Said that UMD has a GREAT program but their kid knew nothing about it and just happened to take a class and realized this was the path they wanted to take!


The WSJ ranked it #10 overall in their most recent rankings which probably has raised its profile. WSJ rankings are heavily influenced by career outcomes and earnings and ROI, so not a surprise it did well on those metrics (as well as number of STEM-only kind of equivalent schools like Rose-Hulman).

Well known in business, esp in the northeast. Beautiful campus in Wellesley. They are in a residential area and it's quite a walk to shops/restaurants, but many kids have cars.
