I've been wondering the same, OP.
I've lived by myself since I was 19, never even had a roommate. I've always loved it, but at 48 it's starting to get old.
I've been fantasizing about a Golden Girls type arrangement, but a huge estate or maybe a farm. I get the sense a lot of women would be interested in a communal living sort of arrangement.

I know. That's why I'm not sure that's what I want. I want the 50-70 year old version of these.

I think the universe of people that can afford not to have roommates (which is basically what you're asking about) and that actually want roommates is going to be very small.

Idk why you’re formalizing something as simple as having roommates. Do you have any single friends? They’re who you should be asking.

But of course, the difficulties of cohabitation can infringe on the personal relationship between platonic same sex companions as easily as it can on one with a man.

She complains hardly anyone is mobile like her-- lots of walkers and wheelchairs. I laughed when I realized that I technically am eligible to move-in there in another year.

OP, I have thought about this as well. You could always look for a roommate on Facebook or something.

When I first moved to DC, there were twin sisters of retirement age who shared an apt together in my building.

I had to put up with an abusive addictive deceptive cheating husband and all the OLD discussions just give me a headache thinking about them and the effort just to find a man who isn't interested in someone younger or using me. Are there other options for living together with someone else that are formal like with OLD? I do better living with someone or near someone with lots of people to keep me engaged during the day and night but maybe my future is more like the Golden Girls rather than with a man. Do people do this type of thing as they age or are older women also too set in their ways to cohabitate? Am I just looking for a 55 and up retirement community?
