Absolutely not. It’s not even honors and it’s crammed in the summer. He will hurt his chances of doing well in pre calculus and calculus. Please don’t fall for the “my child needs to be super fast tracked in math to keep up” crap. He’s already advanced by doing Geometry in 8th.

As a high school math teacher, no way would I allow this. The only summer math course that is possible for getting ahead is geometry, and even that is iffy. Algebra 2 is so important though!

Here’s a tip. Don’t let your 13/14 yo plan their own math tracking. They’re too young to take full stock of all the options and to do a proper risk/reward analysis.
Alg 2 is a year long class. No, your son should not cram it in over a summer.

The problem is that algebra 2 is pivotal for precalculus, AP Calc and AP phys. A quick summer run-through, non-honors at that, will probably not be sufficient.

No. He should not do that.

My DS in 8th AAP. He has been doing very good (all tests and assignments >98%) at Algebra 1 HN (last year) and Geometry HN (this year)
He just told me today that he wanted to do Algebra 2 in the 2024 summer (FCPS summer school) before moving to the freshmen year. However, FCPS only offers Algebra II not the HN one. Is it not normal when a student does Algeria 1 HN and then Algeria II? Thanks.
