We just had this. It’s very contagious. Isolate the sick kid. Keep everyone out of that bathroom. Clean all surfaces with bleach. Ckorox wipes won’t kill norovirus and you have no way to know if this is norovirus or not. This is the season for norovirus and CDC was reporting an increase at the holidays. Two people can be affected differently. DD caught it almost certainly from a friend she stayed with. The friend only vomited once but felt very nauseous. DD had severe vomiting. Also keep in mind these things are contagious after you feel better for a few days. So continue to take precautions. We handled all food prep for our DD for 3 days and continued to be vigilant with cleaning and handwashing.

I think it’s fine for your other child to go to the tryout. My other one went to one and attended school. I just would avoid any social situation where food is shared. And I wouldn’t invite anyone into your home.

If your healthy child is still healthy tomorrow, DC should go to the try out. If healthy child vomits tonight, then no.

This is really stupid. Sorry, i had to say it. Child 2 is not sick and child 2 has already been exposed to child 1. Let the child go and you need to have a drink.

How is this even a question? They’re not sick. Of course you send them. Especially since this is a rare opportunity for them. Even if it weren’t you should still go.

First of all, I would like to say that I appreciate the fact that you are concerned enough about other kids that you are asking for advice. You seem like a lovely person! Like others, I think that if your child with the audition is not having any symptoms, they are fine to attend the audition. Just have them keep their distance from others when they are able to. Chances are they will not be sick! Best of luck to your child on their audition!

DC2 is not sick. Of course send them.

Keep the barfing kid isolated and use really good hygiene.

Noro is not spread asymptomatically or presymptomatically. DC2 should be fine as long as they are feeling fine. If possible, dedicate one bathroom to DC1, and become fanatical about handwashing and Clorox wipes.

If you want to be cautious, test DC2 for COVID before you go, because that can cause gastrointestinal symptoms and be spread asymptomatically.

DC2 would be in a room with about 10 others. Not a close contact sport or anything. Musical instrument.

How close will they be with other people?

We had what we think was norovirus last month and it tore through a lot of people - some vomited once, some five times.

DC1 woke up in middle of night vomiting. Doesn’t seem as bad as norovirus because only 2 instances of vomiting and no diarrhea. (Noro was brutal when our family got it a few years ago.)

My other child has a very important tryout that can’t be rescheduled tomorrow. Assuming they feel fine, okay to let them go as planned? This is a rare opportunity for DC2.
