That must have been a gas line replacement. We had that happen after a random neighbor smelled gas from our sidewalk and then WGL confirmed an underground leak using a hand held device. Grateful to whoever called it in to WGL as that is a basic safety issue.

The meter replacement was separate and took roughly 1 hour. They came in the basement briefly at the end - only to check that the gas furnace was operating safely (e.g., no need to relight a pilot light).

You’re lucky they proactively called you. My neighborhood in upper NW lost gas during the bitter cold over the past two years due to aging gas infrastructure, including meters freezing.

This seem like different than gas meter replacement.

We literally just had it done. Took less than a half hour.

They did ours during summer, practically the entire neighborhood. Is it an emergency?

It was an hour when they did ours a few weeks ago. And you will have no gas during that time. Hopefully you will survive.

Washington Gas called and said they need to replace my outside meter due to its age. The woman who scheduled it made it sound like it's very routine, one hour, no big deal. If you've had this done, can you confirm (or deny) that it's a simple process? I'm a little concerned about any issues and dealing with no heat or hot water during the wintertime.
