Absolutely best in class. Used can be had for well under MSRP. Volvo certified used is a great deal.

I love my vault, a 2017 I just got last year, but from what I understand the Toyota Prius prime get a similar range.

We are considering a plug-in crossover but none get the same electric range as the Volt. The RAV4 seems to be a bit out of our price range. We haven’t looked at the Outlander which was mentioned.

Mitsubishi Outlander - we have and love it

OP here. From a financial perspective, I'm not sure the plug in is worth it. From a logistics and environmental perspective it seems like a good idea, but maybe I'm wrong. I mostly drive short distances in the city, so those would be exclusively on electric power. Four times/year, we take an 8 hour road trip (so 16-ish hours round trip). I'm not ready to commit to fully electric for that because it's still hard to find chargers along our routes and we tend to stop only for quick bathroom breaks. A few times/month we hike or visit friends outside of DC so might use a combo of electric/battery/gas for that.

Will check the subaru crosstrek PHEV too. We might be fine with something that size.

Other small/mid sized plug in/hybrid SUVs you like?

I love my rav4 prime. I have no other suggestions.

Have you done the math on whether the plug in is worth it? I like the idea of one but it’s just not a good value for me.

I'm in the market for a reliable mid-range (price) plug in hybrid SUV. Here's what we care about:

-safe
-nice, quiet drive, good features, heated seats
-compact, but big enough for camping gear. Don't need 3rd row of seats.
-under 50K

We are looking at RAV4 Prime. What else should we look at?
