You could try to get the balance of your contract refunded, is that the sort of action you are contemplating?

I'd move your child ASAP, OP. The situation sounds unsafe.

What would you hope to gain by doing so?

Is your local public an option? Parochial schools? How long are you planning to leave child in that classroom? This week would be an optimal time to go public if in bounds is ok or you can find a charter with an opening.

Get your child's side of the story and decide if it was innocent or not. I took one of my child's opposite sex friends swimming when they were 4-5 at my country club. I was chatting with the other mom and casually looked at the children at the table next to us (in public), they were playing 'I'll show you mine if you show me yours' at the outdoor Cafe, only the other mom and I were there. I did not equate this to assault even though it was the other child's idea! I absolutely did have a long conversation with my child afterwards.

When my DD was in around 4th grade, she was laying on her stomach at aftercare and another girl poked her in the butt, over her pants. DD immediately sat up and was like WTF? and the aftercare people moved the other girl away and told her parents and me what happened. They put them in different groups going forward. The other girl banged her head against the wall to express her upsetness at no longer being with DD, so clearly she had some serious issues.

Nothing else happened after that. DD cooled the friendship going forward. They were in different middle and high schools.

I would report it to the police if you think it was an assault and pull your child from the school.

If you don’t think it warrants that, I would arrange a meeting with the school. I would tell them I expect that your child is in a different classroom from the other child and that the two will never be in the same place alone.

You could report to Maryland state bullying and they will do sn investigation. It’s called safe schools

Actions against the school? Come on. Like what? Your kid is fine. The school reported it to you immediately and has a plan for following up.

If you like, you can request that the other student be moved to a different class. If that is not possible, the child should not be sitting at the same table or near each other in line.

First, you need to figure out the severity of what occurred. Kids do all kinds of roughhousing so if it’s something like lightly spanking on their clothed butt, then just discussing boundaries is fine. If it’s something more significant, it could warrant your child having some counseling, maybe moving the other child to another classroom. The catch is, it is not legal for you to know exactly what the punishment is for the other child.

You said the school called you, did your child feel uncomfortable about the touch? What was the touch?

These are second graders so it could be that the kid didn’t intend for it to be inappropriate and thought that they were playing a game.

Can you request separation from the other child if in the same class and to meet with the admin and other parents? I’m so sorry, I wouldn’t know what to do. I hate that the child who does nothing wrong is an afterthought IME when a peer acts in bad ways.

Before winter break, we got a call from our child's school that a "friend" inappropriately touched my child. We were of course livid and when we spoke to the school, they made it clear that they don't consider it to be assault and instead are teaching about consent and healthy boundaries. What is appropriate for the shcool to do?
