If you’re so unhappy here, move. But some of us like it here and believe the crime will diminish.

Why are you living in DC?

Who is letting non residents serve in public office?

I have spent the weekend preparing for a meeting with an estate lawyer. I don't mind the federal estate taxes, even if the current exemption threshold expires. Given the price of housing in the District, the estate tax exemption threshold here is too low and there is no portability, unlike the federal estate tax.

What's the point? The estate tax brings in all of an eye-popping 0.6% of DC's revenue. And I can avoid them entirely by moving across the river to Virginia.

Wake up. Home prices in DC proper are DOWN. And if you back out the multimillion dollar international level properties the numbers are really bad other than a few “safe” neighborhoods.

NP but really? Every flip in my neighborhood is going for prices that are way too high to live in my neighborhood. But they are taking longer to sell.

Housing everywhere is in a huge bubble.

Maybe some of you haven't been paying attention, but the suburbs aren't doing so great either in terms of crime. Move? Move to where? Even rural America has seen an increase in crime.

Sure, it's tempting to move - but what's even there? The city we came from when we moved to DC has been falling apart and is in steep economic decline, crime has been surging there too, plus there are nowhere near the college or employment prospects for our kids nearby, and barely anything of cultural interest, certainly nothing comparing to DC.

I live here because no matter how much you want to drag the city, many of us love it. If you don't love it, leave.

We need to stop electing people to higher office whose main professional accomplishment is ANC commissioner. The quality of the elected officials on the Council is appalling and a border line national security issue. Please save us Congress.

Perfectly happy here, why would I leave just because some rando on an anonymous message board thinks it’s intolerable?

I think many DC residents correctly perceive that this entire region is a cesspool, so moving to the suburbs isn't really a great solution. But for anyone whose job and personal life allows them to escape the DC area entirely, that really is the best solution.

Many want to leave but are stuck by:

1. Cheap mortgage.
2. Not wanting to pull kids out of school.

We’re done in two years and can’t wait to get out of this place.
