It is absolutely ridiculous to try to do this yourself, and risk further damage plus not getting the job done, when an ENT doctor or clinic can do it safely and effectively in minutes.

Get some liquid docusate and let it sit in each ear for about 20 minutes before trying to irrigate.

Use a 50/50 mix of water and hydrogen peroxide.

Just go to CVS and buy the biggest bulb syringe you can find. And when you fill it up, triple check that it is completely full with warm water before you spray it into your ear.

Drops alone won't do much. If you're squeamish, then you will also likely underestimate the force to use when squeezing it. You want to force the wax out, not merely rinse the ear out with water.

Oh, so I don’t see Patient First in DC but any decent urgent care should be able to do it. It was instant relief!

I just did it at Patient First urgent care - I’m in Rockville, but they are all over. Minute Clinic does it, but you need a 30 minute appointment, I was told.

We go to an ENT for this and it's quick.

That said I went once (my son does it a few times a year) and found out it was actually conductive hearing loss.

I had this taken care of at a CVS Minute Clinic. They shoot water into your ear with a thing that is like a high velocity water gun and that dislodges the wax. It is good that you have already tried the drops yourself; when I had this happen the NP told me that because I had used those drops for like a week the drops probably loosened it up and that helped her be able to get it out rather than having to send me to an ENT. The NP said she loves doing it, lol.

ENT. I guess urgent care could also do it which may be more cost effective and convenient.
