Hockey is the football of UVM, and games are super fun to go to. Different fun but fun nonetheless.

UVM has a basketball team.

My kid is a junior, I’ve posted about his experience at length. Not going to rehash it - quick summary is that it’s been great, scramble for off campus housing starts early in junior year. Not thrilled with his place this year (though he likes it fine), has a great place for senior year lined up

Fans attend the hockey games like they do football at other schools. I went to a school like that and didn't feel like I missed out

Believe the housing crisis hits for upper class folks, not for frosh.

My understanding is the housing issue arises junior year. On campus housing is guaranteed for 2 years but then there is a scramble for off campus housing. To be honest, I'm not sure it is any worse than other universities located in urban areas. My kid seriously considered the school but ultimately went elsewhere.

The merit award was excellent!

Big on skiing. We visited and did not choose it. The presentation for the major was bad and there wasn’t an invitation to any LLC.

They had a choral group perform, and they were good.

The lake is gorgeous and the town is walkable. A train station in town can take your student to other cities on the east coast.

They have some excellent professors so dig deep to make sure your child’s area of study will have good professors and curriculum.

My cousin is there and did not have housing trouble (she is a freshman). She likes to party so she seems to find the parties. Take that for what it sounds like.

It’s COLD, and not really part of the culture there. Skiing and hockey is the thing.

UVM doesn't attract hard-core football types. Much more laid back--think coffee shops, skiing, & pot. Beautiful small city.

Anyone with current or recent grads who can share experience with housing issues? keep hearing that there is a major housing shortage - at least from a few years ago but don't know anyone who actually experienced it. Also any comments on campus life in the fall without football? Know not everyone is into sports but learned last year with my first DC at school that football at these mid-size and large schools plays a major role in weekend social life/school spirit.
