This really is the best option. Train to NC would add time to your trip. The time on the train is long. Then Add ten minutes at both ends to get from parking to and from train. Better to drive. I have staff that do a similar drive a few days a week. No one complains much about it.

OP, we live in Falls Church and DH has to go to Annapolis a few times a month for work. Not to be captain obvious, but the key for him is to leave as early as possible - he leaves home around 6am on those days and is generally able to avoid bad traffic doing so.

Next week, I start a great new job in Annapolis. My family lives in Falls Church and for various reasons, moving is not an option. I only have to go into the office 3 days/week, and I can work slightly off-hours (getting in at 7 and leaving at 3). I did a test drive before the holidays and it was about 50 minutes to work an hour to home. I can manage that with audio books and podcasts, but I'm wondering if anyone has tried more creative options. I'm walking distance to the Orange line, so I was thinking about the metro to New Carrolton and driving the rest of the way on 50, but that would mean that I'd have to leave a car at NC. I can't find any carpool options either.
