Yeah I haven’t noticed this. If anything some of the greatest have left (MCPS altogether)

Lol, please elaborate. She might not even get a second term from what I'm hearing.

Let's hope that comes soon!

Yea this isn’t true and a myopic view of Administration (or management generally).

This. Teachers should be paid significantly more than admins. Then things would start to change.

As a teacher, (although anecdotal), the worst admins I have had are those with central office aspirations. The good admins tend to stay in the buildings because they are beloved and good at their jobs. I don’t ever want to step into that cesspit at central. They all are so moody anytime any of us ask them a question or need something.

I've encountered some really great administrators in MCPS, but I'd be interested to know whether a CO job is "better" other than the pay.

As a HS principal, you are dealing with a ton of stress and conflicting priorities, but you are also the mayor of your own little city. Moving from that role to being one of 50 faceless bureaucrats in Rockville doesn't feel nearly as interesting.

This. If you are under 30 and already an admin candidate, you had less than a decade of classroom experience.

People rise quickly by embracing trendy educational policy like equity initiatives that show progress on closing the gap by dumbing down opportunities for G&T students. This isn't the kind of person who would benefit our students.

Yes but they have to get a separate degree/certificate in administration to be an administrator. Most managers out there don't have management training either. Teachers want administrators with education backgrounds, they have enough people without education experience, like the one on this board, giving them their opinions.

I get that, but I also think it’s a problem that ed leaders have no real management training. Their background, after all, is in education.

Just curious - any strong, up-and-coming leaders in MCPS (current school administrators) who could rise into leadership (superintendent's cabinet) in the future? Heard really good things about the Principal Intern at Lakelands Park, for example, who already has her doctorate in her early 30s. Asking because there seems to be a lot of impending turnover at the HS principal level, which is usually (at the right places) a stepping stone to a role in a weak central office.
