OP here, and you're right.

I think I was just overthinking it all, and wanting my daughter's fiancee to be comfortable. She's fine, I already love her and her new grandmothers-to-be love her too. It's a lovely thing the two grandmothers are close and family-oriented as well as kind and non-judgmental. Everyone is not always this fortunate.

Thank you all for the kind comments; I'm thrilled about the new addition to our family and glad my daughter has found a wonderful partner to love.

I don’t think their reaction was “extra.” Old ladies love their grandchildren and love weddings. The only news that would make them more excited is a baby announcement.

It's sweet. They probably overdid it on order to come off as accepting, but it's great and be happy for it.

My mother/stepfather and MIL were here for Christmas. Eldest DD brought her girlfriend home to meet them all. I've met the girlfriend, as has MIL After Christmas dinner, DD announced she and girlfriend would be getting married in 2024. MIL, who had an inkling this was coming, conspired with my mother to yell "Welcome to our family!!" in loud voices and clap their hands wildly. They then took the girlfriend aside to learn more about her and hug her.

The girlfriend is shy but seemed ok with this.

Cringe because these two older women were so ...extra about it all. And the beautiful thing as MIL is just past 80 and my mom is a few years away from 80. They came of age at a time when gay people were so ashamed/in the closet. And yet here they are embracing the union of two young people who happen to be the same sex. Sometimes it's easy to feel despair about the state of the world and small moments like this give a bit of hope for the future.
