Interesting that you find the louvre worth your time but not the Uffizi or the Vatican (among many others).

I have a teen who loves art and art history, so we plan trips with museums in mind. My other kid hates museums so we do other stuff, too, or split up for an afternoon. To each their own.

We love museums. If you have small kids, the Children’s Museums have grown and improved so much over the decades. People travel miles to experience the interactive exhibits at these places. The museums have fascinated us on trips far and wide. We love reading and learning new things. Every museum is a treasure trove to our family. We take trips to far cities JUST to go through the science museum or art museum. We can’t get enough of them!

Maybe this is all because I am spoiled by being born/raised here, where we have free access to some of the best museums around. I definitely don't mind popping in at the Natural History museum here, and checking out an exhibit or do and then bouncing. But I also don't feel like I need to get my money's worth here because it's free. If I were to pay admission for some science museum somewhere else, well, I'm going to get my money's worth.
Anyway, just rambling. Anyone else skip museums on trips?
There are some decent museums in DC, but they aren’t the be all and end all. I would never claim they are “the best museums around.”

I too am annoyed by the hefty fees.
But I love museums. I've planned whole international trips just to see a museum (like the Hermitage). Obviously I do other things there and want to see the cities too, but some museums are my top draw. I have small kids now and barely get to see any museums. I dream about the days of touring art museums and such again.

As a kid, my mother would spend HOURS dragging us through museums and we grew to hate vacations with her, and hate museums.
It took 20 years before I could go into a museum again, and I can't even tell you what a sense of relief it was to go through it at my own pace and be out in 45 minutes.

Sometimes the museum is part of the landmark. I went to the civil rights museum in atlanta, and it was great. A ton of history in the city that is captured in one building.

+1 OP, I tend to enjoy them less and less on travels. They are usually crowded with the most annoying kinds of tourists and the bathrooms are always a disaster.
