I would rehome or return to the rescue. The sooner the better.

Did you get a dna test? How do you know what it is if you are an inexperienced owner who doesnt know the difference between a boxer and a pitt?

Stop blaming the breed and blame your inexperience and lack of family support.

They are definitely not all pit mixes. We have a rescue who we were told was a lab mix. He turns out to be lab/shepard/beagle. We were in your shoes when he was about a year old. We had 3 young children and he was super high energy and seemed untrainable. He ate our furniture and jumped on our kids scaring them. Thankfully he showed no aggression We tried to return him but the rescue offered lots of support instead. They directed us to Your Dogs Friend which was a game changer. But it took a lot of time and patience. Unfortunately, those early years made it difficult for me or my kids to bond with him and I feel guilty about it. In retrospect we should never have adopted a dog. I wish the rescues provided more education pre-adoption. We had only had cats before. I’m glad we stuck it out but I won’t ever have a dog again. If your dog is a pit and hard to control, I’d consider rehoming to a household without kids if you’ve exhausted training options.

With 3 young kids? Rehome right away! You know you do not want to be stuck with this dog for potentially the next 15 years. No one is going to say anything when you explain you have 3 young kids and it isn't a match.

We tried rescuing and soon realized the options were pit, pit mixes, chihuahua, or dogs with some major issues. Got an awesome family dog from a breeder with no regrets.

Dogs are nor toys you get rid of when inconvenient. Dogs is prob very attached to your family by now. You made a commitment and should work on training this dog vs rehoming.

Op - I am very disillusioned with rescues. I did not want a pit bull. Never rescued before so didn’t know they literally are all pit bull mixes. We should have just bought a dog from a breeder.

They’re not all put mixes. You just have to be careful and aware. (I have a purebred lab rescue…I mean we haven’t done dna but he looks and acts like a purebred chocolate lab and people ask me all the time which breeder I used)

Try to rehome this dog. This does not work for your family

We have a cat.

We have a year old mixed breed rescue who is very high energy. We have 3 young kids who can’t help so I am stuck with all dog related things. I take her on 2-3 walks a day plus running and an hour at a dog park.

She js fine as long as I do all of those things. But if I can’t do that then she is a terror and ruins everything. We are on vacation right now with her and she has to be on a leash non stop so she doesn’t ruin the house. And she doesn’t recall at all so she is never allowed off leash outside.

Do we just try and push through or try and rehome her? The rescue said she was a mid size lab mix. She isn’t at all. She is a 75 pound boxer/pit mix who is very strong and muscular.
