EA is not really applying early. It’s the primary application deadline at most state schools.

It wouldn't matter. These days, UNC is very much focused on in-state students. It's nearly impossible for OOS students to get in. Go ahead and throw an EA app their way. Even Maryland requires you to apply EA to have any chance. But I wouldn't fixate on UNC. It's very unlikely to happen for any OOS applicant. Chapel Hill fills almost the entirety of their class with North Carolina students.


Let's not get carried away here. Yes, it is very difficult to get into UNC from OOS. But there were at least 3 kids from my DS's FCPS high school (graduated in 2023) who were accepted there and I know for sure that two of them weren't hooked.

Very slim. They don’t care if you’re full pay or not.

I only know one who got in. He had a great story- and probably filled a need at UNC. Our friend’s kid is a legacy and crazy smart with all sorts of accolades and amazing classes and grades and did not get in.

I know one kid that got in but I know lots of kids who had high stats who were rejected. Seems like a nice place to go to school but I’m really stunned by how hard it is to get in.

I've only known two who've been admitted. One was decades ago from a Baltimore City public - super, super good student. The second is DC of a very wealthy PE family and got in EA.

There doesn’t seem to be. Overall oos admit rate is about 8 percent acceptance rate, which includes recruited athletes. Full pay not a factor, UNV is need blind.
