Pp, here. Yes, we have done Vermont. It doesn’t break the bank like out west. Don’t get me wrong, it isn’t cheap, but driving vs flying, not having to rent a car and staying at a Hampton Inn, can save some $$$.

PP here. I’ve been out west a couple times. Yes, it’s awesome, but a little expensive for me to do on a regular basis. I know Wisp and Timberline don’t come close, but it’s better than nothing. Local skiing is even too much $$$ for my wallet. This is why I’m really picky about when I ski. If the conditions are mediocre, I’m staying home.
I grew up going to Tahoe and yes, it's nice. But $25,000 nice? No.

Lift tickets for 4 days - 4500
Private instructor for 2 days - 2800
Airfare - 3500
Airbnb - 4000
Car rental - 500
Lunch - 400-600
Dinner - 1000-2500 (depending on eating out or cooking)
Ski rentals - $500 (we don’t rent boots)
So probably about 18-20k.
Swiss alps is similar.
Lift tickets for 4 days - 4500

Accommodations is the greatest variable for us. From a lower-end condo in Breck to a larger house in Deer Valley. There are a lot of price points at most locations.

Ikon passes - approx $2K for family
Air bnb- $2500 at Winter Park or Big Sky
Car rental - $500-$700 (for big sky there is a ski bus that is super cheap if you want to skip the rental, for most other places, car rental is cheaper or same cost as a shuttle to/from mountain)
Lunch/food at mountain:$600
We eat dinner and breakfast at home
We buy kids used ski gear at a ski swap and adults have own gear, we fly Southwest so checking bags is free

We buy season passes and have gear (or rent for kids for the season). We cut corners staying with friends, doing big group houses with other families, and trying to minimize meals out but it’s still hard to do it for less than $6-$8k. My family loves it. It’s their fav thing we do together.

Back of the envelope, minimum is 2K per person for flights, lodging, ski pass. More for food, rental equipment and lessons.

You don’t need to go to Aspen, OP. That’s one of the most expensive ways to do it.
Whether it’s fun and worth it will have a lot to do with ski conditions and the personalities in your party.
