It depends. UMD is far stronger at things like engineering, math, economics, or CS than any VA school. For more liberal arts, though, schools like UVA are excellent.

Even if moving to BF somehow improved admissions odds for your kids, why would you subject them to that kind of day-to-day experience in arguably some of the most formative and memorable years of their lives?

Just going by great school score, ccmd school is 8 and virginia school is 4. My kids are kind of lazy but get good marks and test well. Straight A's so far.

Yes, I'm worried about peer group in VA. But the international schools, there were a lot of rich, entitled kids who were just as bad or even worse because they had fixers and never had to face any consequences. That's a lot like CCMD I'm told

Well, then, you have plenty of other things that will be a positive for your kids experience. Including international travel.— I would move to where you want and where you have relatives and for me that would be a close to City but you do you, but I definitely wouldn’t put pressure on kids that you moved something particular so that they could get an edge in college admissions. Keep in mind college admissions are difficult, regardless, and change over time-you really don’t know what it’s going to be like in five or six years

I would like to move to the mountains of VA in the middle of nowhere but can’t work from home. I’ve looked for jobs and can’t afford to live there. We want slower pace of life and to be away from the crazy pressure and traffic here. It wouldn’t be to help with college admissions. That alone is not a good reason to move.
