Jesus Christ. The kid is an A/B student. Might as well apply to be an astronaut at 18 if he's going to apply to these schools.

Here are some realistic options:

Reaches: Santa Clara, Occidental, Pepperdine

High targets: Whitman, Loyola Marymount

Targets: Willamette, Puget Sound, Chapman, U of the Pacific

Safety: Whittier

Offbeat choice: Soka University of America

A/B student (depending on the school) could get into Gonzaga, Puget Sound, Whitman, Lewis & Clark, Santa Clara, Loyola Marymount, Occidental, Pepperdine, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, etc. it’s hard to tell without a standardized test score because it’s possible Bs are okay at his school, or really disappointing.

Caltech and Pomona are out of reach because of grades; they are near impossible admits even with perfect stats. Stanford, USC, UCB and UCLA are very large and out of reach because of grades. Definitely check out Occidental, Santa Clara and Loyola Marymount -- all great schools in equally great locations and not too large.

OP, you have described a generic child. Any generic school on the west coast is a fit based on this description. Can you give us more details on what type of school he wants - urban? rural? Your ability to pay? Any specific interests or activities of the child? Is he STEM-focused or humanities focused?

Those details will help us give better advice.

If you live in the DMV area, it's not worth the travel besides of these schools
