But honestly, it's not that difficult an admit. My on was in DCPS and he and 3 classmates/friends were admitted. All decent students but nothing outstanding outside of grades. 2 out of the 4 are not Catholic.

There were over a thousand applicants last year for a class of around 125.

Highly competitive admissions!

Historically Prep likes to admit at least one boy from each parish school.

Not a typical feeder, but St. Raphael had 4 boys matriculate to Prep two years ago, and this was out of a total of 12 boys in the entire 8th grade class (so approximately one third of the class).

Send your son to Mater Dei if Prep is your goal.

+1 just be sure to hold him back from K until he’s 10 so he fits in at MD

The great majority come from Mater Dei (30%) and the parishes in western Montgomery County, eastern Fairfax County and NW DC. Frequently some of the athletes and diversity admits come from more far flung areas.

If you are looking to increase your odd of getting into GP, the best strategy is to attend a middle school that every years supplies freshman students, to be Catholic and to be a close to full pay as possible.

Athletes have an edge. Especially in the sports the school has to go outside of their normal customer base for (primarily football and basketball). They get a lot of lacrosse players, golfers, etc. through the regular admissions sources.

The question was about feeder schools, not the rare birds that non-Catholics from public schools represent.

Mater Dei by a wide margin with as many as 30 boys per year.

Than there are the western MoCo parochial schools (Mercy, de Chantal, Holy Redeemer, St Barts, St Elizabeth’s, and Little Flower. In the District there’s Blessed Sacrament and to a lesser degree Holy Trinity.

Essentially it’s the Catholic K8’s in NWDC, Bethesda, Potomac, Kensington, Rockville and the Virginia ones just across the American Legion bridge in McLean and Great Falls. But Mater Dei supplies 30 of the 90 or 100 Day students in each class with. Boarding students making up the balance.

Prep has long-established relationships with all these schools and a degree of trust in the formal and informal exchanges of information about candidates.

Even more far flung parishes seem to send at least one boy to Prep each year suggesting that the school wants to be seen as an achievable possibility broadly.
