Why is it OK to do something crazy that everyone does (lemming) but not OK to do something crazy that is unusual (eccentric)?

There are lots of "weird" places with higher birthrates. The combination of deeply ingrained patriarchy, high cost of living, lack of available childcare, and an overabundance of well-educated women is what tanks South Korea's birthrate.

Those places rent out clothes. Like wedding pictures are taken before the wedding and often they will put on different outfits for these.

OP. Also interested in this. My SILs photos were taken in South Korea. My BIL is wearing a tux, and you can see he is not wearing socks with the dress shoes. It almost makes me think they have clothes/shoes there (at the studio) that people pick out? Although I guess anyone would have the option of buying all new clothes, right?


You can also go to historic or even scenic sites in South Korea and rent Hangbok for the day just to stroll around in. It’s a thing!

I grew up in the 80s and 90s in the Midwest, and my friends from summer programs who were from southern CA used to take formal photos as a fun weekend activity. It was a big thing in Korean-American and Taiwanese-American friend groups to do portrait studio photos in coordinated outfits. My friend photos were just disposable camera prints and I was so envious!

Probably rent o dress. No socks sounds like an unfortunate fashion statement especially for his age. You should ask your brother if that was by design.

Photo studio pictures are a big deal. Sometimes they are manned by a photographer and sometimes they are completely DIY. The couple could own the outfits they use (can be multiple gowns/suits) but it is not at all uncommon to rent bridal gowns. The no socks thing is an intentional look.

On a big wedding anniversary (let’s say 20 years), having family photos taken of yourself in a wedding dress, with your husband in a nice suit, and your daughter also in a nice dress? There was no vow renewal involved, and the photos were taken at a photography studio.
