I love our holiday potluck. The food is fantastic, much better than takeout pizza.

Last year we had a huge holiday party for all employees and spouses. That was in addition to a catered office holiday luncheon.

This year hasn't been as great sales wise, so the big holiday party was cut and instead of a company wide catered event, each department head was given a budget to take their employees out to lunch or order in. My department went out for a nice lunch but my friend's department only got Costco pizzas, wah-wah.

We generally just ask people to kick in and get pizza but we used to do a potluck and some people like that (but I never brought anything).

You've clearly never worked for a non-profit.

They waste money on so much stupid sh!t and then have to send out emails on how it was a struggle year for the org, so no bonuses.

My final straw was the year when they announced that everyone would get a flat raise of 0.05% in January of the coming new year. Yes, not even 1%. And being in finance, I was privy to the fact that the c-suites were given huge bonuses that holiday season AND big raises (10-12%) for the upcoming new year.

If they can’t spring for it, another option is to ask for $20 or something per person and bring in sandwiches and cookies or something from a restaurant.

I would rather no party than a potluck

Potlucks are horrible in general at offices but as a holiday party?

I worked for a cheap and newer company and same thing, the potluck was so lame. Spent a little to give back to your employees instead of making them bring their own food.

We had a holiday potluck at my former workplace and it was awesome. It was a very diverse group and everyone would bring dishes from their country. The organization would also provide pizza but no one ate that. I still miss it.

I work for a mid-size non-profit and every year we having potluck for our holiday party...... And I am over it.

If you can't even spring for $100 of pizza really, why are we here?.
