Brand new petite sized maternity jeans for like 4 bucks. Petite sizes are hard to find let alone in the maternity world so I felt I scored big. And they were so cute I wore them post maternity until there were too many holes.

I mostly just see junk at my local places so I seldom go. I think goodwill puts the decent stuff on eBay now. That said I got a nice French press for $10 a few years ago—not a bargain but still better than buying new. Many years ago, I got a very nice crockpot that was out of my budget new and paid $15. I was happy about that.

Not from a store but a yard sale more than a bit ago.

I picked up a “pearl” necklace because I liked the coloring of the pearls and the unique clasp. An aunt took a look at it and thought them better than just of the costume variety but I didn’t pursue it. Fast forward a few years, and when it came time to pull my wedding ensemble together, I went to our regular jeweler to get them restrung and was shocked when I picked them up to get a full appraisal with an eye-opening amount (I hadn’t even asked for one….lol…just the nominal/reasonable restring fee.). A second opinion (from a different shop) came back even higher.

Needless to say, that strand gets locked in a safe. And, while I’m not much of a pearl “type,” I do try to find occasions to wear them….if nothing else to remind me of our glorious wedding day. 🥰

One year I bought a Baby Dior dress and cardigan set for my baby daughter for $8. It had a tear, which I easily repaired with a needle and thread in a few minutes. I was so happy!

Now I avoid brick and mortar thrift shops and buy on Poshmark.

Yep. I'm in Falls Church and the pickers get to places like Goodwill and Unique very, very early.

() a gorgeous, new-with-tags, leather jacket for $40, a Canadian brand. This was about 10 years ago and I still wear the coat regularly.

() an old Schiaparelli lambswool coat for $50. It’s so fancy I rarely wear it but it’s utterly beautiful

I would urge caution when it comes to shoes unless you want to risk toenail fungus. Fungi can live on in shoes for quite some time.

I love love love thrifting.

DD casually sauntered into a thrift shop and walked out with a very classy, deep purple leather jacket, clearly had almost never been worn, for I think about $30. Real leather, lining is perfect, not a scrape or scratch on the leather, zero signs of wear. She has a gift for finding amazing things.

This is the kind of item that someone would have put up on consignment, asking a TON more money, in the US. But we were in the UK, where there is a huge culture of "charity shops" where you can find amazing things. If you're a real thrift shop clothing fan, and you get to the UK, you're going to have a blast.

In another shop she found a gorgeous pair of black suede short boots that are embroidered all over with metallic thread. Stunning. Paid around $25 for them. Again, looked like they'd never been worn, and with suede boots or shoes, wear shows very quickly. Fit her perfectly. Felt like such a win!

Mine is a silk cotton spring short cardigan in pale pink.
I'm not good at keeping light colored clothes from getting stained so I am very, very careful about where/when I wear it.
