Op here. Sorry at work now. So many typos. This is my second child. When the school has early dismissal it is generally better communicated. That's my point. In the email that was sent 2 weeks ago, the email body did not mention details about early pickup. It just mentions sending the invitation to the party. It would have been better if the email said early pickup because they are changing the childcare agreement. We have another early pickup just a few weeks ago for Thanksgiving party/ singing show.

That's adorable that they care enough about your kid to do things like this. Public schools do not.

OP here. Our sons public school does have a holiday show that's after school. They also all throw halloween, thanksgiving and xmas parties. Our older son has been enrolled in several public schools.

Op, not reading the papers that come home is on you. The school can only do so much.

These years will fly by, and before you know it they will be gangly teenagers and these sorts of school events will be over. I know it’s hard to juggle, but it’s one short season of life.

Read the papers in the folder and do what you can to be there if it’s possible.

This one’s on you, OP. Pay attention to school notices going forward and stop blaming others.

And yeah, I agree with you that public schools don't do this. That's because public schools do absolutely nothing. Not an end of the year play, no cookies nothing. They basically treat kids like little cogs who don't get parties, field trips or class celebrations. Even Halloween was cut from my older kids' school because it's devil worship.

I am confused. It doesn't sound like an early pick up. It sounds like they asked parents to be there during the day.

You also mention 11:30, which makes it sound like a 1/2 day preschool. There is an assumption that people who can pick up at 12:30 can pick up at 11:30. If you want a program designed around the needs of working parents, you generally choose one that's full day.

Having said that, I'm surprised that there wasn't a notice at pick up.

But somehow all of the other parents got the message. So this is on you. Pay attention to comms from the school and if you're unclear or have questions, ask. It's not their fault you didn't pick up your kid on time.

So your preschool had a lovely event that they invited parents to and provided cookies for. And you couldn't be bothered to open either and email or a paper that was sent home with your kids. How do you want contacted?! Sheesh.

I love that my kids' preschool does things like this. There is always one or two parents that don't attend and it's okay (well some of the kids cry). I doubt it was a Christmas party, it was probably called a holiday party, but either way, I'm sure they weren't reading about the birth of Jesus. It was likely some secular santa stuff with red and green cookies.

Also, if you don't celebrate, then you can't pretend to be super busy this time of year.

It's going to be a long parenting journey for you

2 weeks ago I was emailed some kind of invitation to this mandatory Christmas party which requires me to be there an hour early. It was an attachment I didn't open. We don't celebrate Xmas. This early pick-up wasn't on the school calendar and I work. I get a call specifically saying this lady is with him at the cookie reception because "you are not here". She didn't call my husband so it was all on me. How sexist! If they are deciding to have less preschool shouldn't they be better at notifying us? An email the day before or the morning of? That's what public schools would do and they would give us way more advance notice about picking up early from school. When I did arrive at school during the regular pick my son was sitting with his teachers and everyone else eating cookies. She mentioned she sent an email and sent home a note in his folder. I honestly throw most of those papers in the recycling. If I did see something at the party I probably assumed it was at night and we wouldn't go. I should be more careful and read all the papers I guess..i hope there aren't anymore early pick-ups until graduation. Of course, every kid has both their mom and dad attend the Xmas party and Thanksgiving one. We went to the Thanksgiving one but we can't take off in the middle of the day at 11:30 am to hear his class sing for 5 his and eat cookies.
