If you are local in DC area, Arlington YMCA has Demo Days (where you can try out different paddles). The Bethesda Y may also have these events.
Call and find out.
If you are in Fairfax County, Pickleballerz is a local club with paddles to test out.
I’m sure there are also places in MD.

The top player in the world is Ben Johns. He’s a recent graduate from Maryland. Has a million dollar contract playing PPA tour and Major League Pickleball. Plus, he makes a ton in endorsements. He’s 24.
The top tier of pros are all young.
Two of top young female pros are also from DC area. Both early 20s.
Jack Sock, Sam Querry, Donald Young, Eugenia Bouchard…. All pro tennis players transitioning to pro pickleball.
Local tournaments for amateurs regularly draw 300-500 players. The best amateurs play weekly in cash money tourneys. Many of these guys are 5.0-5.5 tennis players who have converted to pickleball.

Pickleball is big on college campuses. UVA had over 300 kids try out for the club team

there are places you can "buy" paddles and try them out, choose the one you like and then return the rest.
