You have to physically dry it after every load or so. We had one and left the door open and it still got moldy.
Went back to a top loader ( no agitator) and love it.

I knew there was no way all 5 people using the washer in our house would wipe it down…so we stuck with top loading. I didn’t want to complicate life even more having to contend with mold, mold gel etc

You need to clean it. When it’s wet, wipe it out. Run afresh through it. Leave the door and the soap tray open after use.

I don't know why everyone ran out to buy those washers.

We were told by the HVAC mechanic that mold is a very common problem with front load washers. Water gets leftover in there.

This is not normal PP. If you keep your door open and you're still getting mold then either your washer is not fully emptying or you keep your laundry room door closed and there is no air circulation. Also shame on you for leaving a moldy washer behind for the next owner - although it's not a deal breaker it's not nice. Karma will find you.

I actually think it’s with all front loaders. Ours is five years old, I leave the door open, I wipe it down after every load, and if anything, our house is overly dry. Not humid at all. And I still need to use that mold gel from time to time.

Maybe humidity and dampness are a problem in your house. Is there a way to improve air circulation? Crack a window?

I think newer models are better, but just get in the habit of wiping down the basket after every wash.

Put on a mask, some cleaning gloves, and clean it. Also start using the monthly self clean cycle, keep the door open when not in use etc. No, it doesn’t systematically happen.

Our front load washer has mold in the rubber seal. Does this happen with all front load washers, or does it not happen with some models?
