A kind poster in the Thai food thread explained about the names used in Thailand and in American restaurants and also the flavors.

My daughter has had "Butter Chicken" from a jar and asks me why it's called butter chicken. I guess the obvious answer is that there is a lot of butter and cream in? But butter chicken connotes a white cream sauce to American ears. Is it because there are so many other tomato chickens that this one is differentiated by the butter? It's kind of a stupid question but I wanted to research for her.
