It can only if you are a transfer outside of FCPS.

Yes I agree with the above. Math is the biggest hurdle

As long as she is in advanced math, just wait until next year.

We were in your situation last year. My son who was in 3rd grade was found eligible to be in AAP. We were okay with him moving class. Both of the teachers and the assistant Principal were amazing. They allowed my son to continue sitting with his old classmates during lunch and at end of the day he would go to his old class and be dismissed from there. Just talk to the teachers and ask how to make the transition as easy as possible. Your daughter should be okay. It’s very important she build bond with her new classmates.

NP. Move her as soon as possible so that she can start making new friendships. These are the kids that will be her classmates through 6th grade, she should start to settle in with them as soon as she can.

The transition isn't great but it isn't that bad, especially if she has stability in her class and classmates going forward.

In DD1’s 4th grade class a kid moved into the class in January. The class (a good group of kids) welcomed her right in. It was fine.

But I also know a kid who waited until 5th and slid right into the curriculum no issues.

So it might not be a good thing even after the academic year? I haven't thought about that. How could it not be good for her next year?

Yes and Yes. I guess it's the same in DD's school. She made friends with some AAP kids from specials. She seems okay with moving next year, just not now. Another weird thing is that her friends have been begging her to stay after the teacher said she's going to AAP. So I am all confused now. She might not know what she wants.

Yes! Thanks for the question! But she'll have to pass her old class everyday, which could be sad (if I imagine this). Is FT AAP worth the potential emotional fluctuation?

I posted earlier but now I am struggling with a decision to make. SO I am opening a new post. DD is a transfers in 4th grade. We moved to this school district this summer. I have been asking questions with school and the AART since the beginning of the school year about AAP. I was told she needed to be in a PBL class the first semester, and transfer to FT AAP in January if she got in. I wasn't happy about this, since DD is strong in academics and her abilities come naturally. She was in the gifted program since 1st grade in her previous school and we don't even do anything at home. I believe that she belongs there. (not meaning to brag or anything, just trying to provide some bg info).
However, to my surprise, DD is very happy in the PBL class. She made a lot of friends really fast and got attached to the teachers.
I haven't receive the AAP decision yet, but I think she's in. Her teacher said that in the whole class (which is weird) and also to me directly. DD got 99 percentile on Iready for both subjects, 146 in CogAT, and good teacher ratings. The question is, should I move her next semester? She doesn't want to go. And I actually care less now. She'll be academically successful in both classes. Can anyone give me some advice on this? Much appreciated!
