How does your comment contribute to the topic?

Child should be in pre-cal this year if super advanced and they aren't offering AP pre-cal at many schools this year so there is no comparison.

That’s the normal track, not advanced.

Algebra 2 is mostly the same as Algebra 1.

Geometry is different material from Algebra. It's more visual. (Algebra can also largely visual, and you should do it visually to build intuition, but it's easier to do algebra symbolically than geometry, and almost no one even tries to do geometry symbolically, even though it is possible and that's how mathematicians do it )

Also most kids who do enrichment math spend far, far more time on algebra than geometry.

My child sounds like yours (bright, not a math genius) and is loving Honors Algebra 2.

For some kids, Algebra comes more easily than Geometry, and their brains just "get it."

But, also, my child has an incredible teacher this year whose approach is to really reach different kinds of learners by presenting the material in different ways.

If your child is passing the formatives and evaluations, I think you can just accept that your kid is having a good math year. There are good and bad teachers for every subject, but the module assessments are consistent across classes so if your child is doing well in those, it sounds like he's on track.

My 9th grader has been in the advanced math track in MCPS since 4th grade. He's bright but not a math genius and he struggled with geometry in 8th grade at TPMS. He is finding Alg 2 super easy, is getting a high A, doesn't have homework nor does he study for quizzes and exams. What gives? Does he have a great teacher who explains things well in a way my kid understands? Or does he have a terrible teacher who doesn't expect much from these kids? I'm thrilled that my kid is finding it easy (since I thought this would be the class he struggled with the most) but I'm concerned about his preparation for the pre-calc, calculus and SAT/ACT. What say you DCUM?
