How so? It's no different than a spouse accompanying the employee to a company paid holiday party.
It doesn’t meet the tax requirements to “expense it” if that’s the manner it was used.

I'd cap it at $500. You can get a very nice dinner for that price and I personally wouldn't want to be the employee that pushed the limit to the max to find the breaking point. This is a nice holiday bonus!

How big is the company? I doubt they care whether its 150 vs 200 vs 300 vs 325.
Come in asking for 900 for a dinner for two and maybe they will ask questions.
