i think many formerly prestigious and/or useful positions in society (like this one or, say...president of harvard) will pretty soon be understood to be welfare programs for less talented people that happen to be "of color."

Talented people will just find new areas to be productive. Unfortunately, we'll be ruled by even dumber beurocrats that we historically have been.

You're SO close to getting it. They WANT to legally be allowed to be unfair to all the others because then they don't have to worry about equality. They can do whatever they want to whomever they want.

The left wing parties of all other nations are not like this. They push for affordable healthcare and work with unions to get more sicks days for employees, that sort of thing. No one except the American Left is so obsessed with "equity" and race, when the problems are so obviously economic, first and foremost. Poverty and race issues overlap, but are not the same problems. There is no way to actively put a thumb on the scale for certain ethnicities or races without being unfair to all the others.

To MoCo leadership, racial equity IS politically neutral. It isn't, of course, because it requires racial discrimination aka racism.
