DD does homework at times throughout the school day and has had projects requiring longer blocks of work at home. But she doesn't consistently have much homework.

We are about an hour a night and maybe an hour on the weekends. More if there is a math test.

I have had two kids go through our MCPS public school and they have not read many novels in MS English. They seem to mostly read excerpts in Study Sync. Wondering which MCPS middle schools are reading novels!

My kids read books in HIGH in 6th grade. Not so much in ‘Advanced’ English though.

I have a 6th grader and a 9th grader. My 6th grader is doing far more novel reading than my 9th grader did a few years ago (same school, same teacher). Maybe they are incorporating more in?

Yes, for real, the assignments like presentations, papers, etc, assigned. Their lowest grade right now is 98%. This week, they had a 2-page math assignment, a formative in math, a debate in Spanish 3, a vocabulary test in Spanish, a paper due in social studies, and a science quiz. They also wrote a simple game in their CS class that uses 2D arrays but completed it at school.

How is your kid taking Spanish 3 as a sixth grader? Guessing that you actually have an 8th grader? That sounds more like my 8th graders workload in the magnet. My 6th grader has 100% in everything and doesn’t have the workload you describe.

For LA: read two chapters, a night of a novel, and answer 4 pages of questions every three days, memorize Latin and Greek roots for weekly quiz, complete two activities on prefixes, suffixes, and affixes, such as writing 12 sentences using new vocabulary words and writing out 12 definitions. Working on a creative writing assignment and weekly spelling words. One weekly reading comprehension passage and 12 questions.
For Math; daily problems
For Science/ Sovial Studies: Completing interactive notebook and worksheets. Studying for end of unit exams and completing side projects.
Public school grade 6.

Consistent math homework at SSIMS, though doesn’t take a super long time. Occasional English, history or French homework but not daily. And sometimes a project that needs to be done, which takes longer.

Are you asking about the amount of assigned work the teachers give or the amount of time your child spends completing tasks?
