NP. How many Algebra 1 HN classes are there?

What one person considers "good" teaching, another might hate. I am not at Longfellow but my daughter is taking Algebra 1H in 7th grade. Before school started, I mentioned who her teacher was to someone and they went on and on about what a terrible teacher he was. I was nervous. But I actually think he's doing a great job. It became pretty clear that the issue was that the *style* of teaching was not to this parent's liking but it works perfectly well for my child.

So I'd take any recommendations on good vs bad teaching with a grain of salt.

I'm not OP but I think knowing that you may not have a good math teacher also helps you understand how best to prepare for the class. My kids are in Cooper zone, but I agree with the logic of the question. Kids usually figure out whether the teacher is good within the first couple of weeks but with math it is hard because some teachers show their inability to teach complex matters as they get to the complex topics especially in a class like Algebra I Honors.

OP here -- any parent who can answer the original question? How many Algebra I Honors classes are there, who are the good math teachers? We are new to the FCPS system and would appreciate some help on this.

But won't not taking Algebra 1 in 7th harm you chances of getting into TJ?

Power math is not a stand-alone math course. It's offered alongside a grade-level course (Math 7 or Pre-Algebra). It's for students that who need additional support beyond the regular classroom.

For 8th if you don't want to (or aren't ready to) pursue Algebra you can take either Pre-Algebra or Power Math 8.

Can a Longfellow parent provide some input on the Algebra I Honors classes at Longfellow? How many different class offerings are there for Algebra I Honors? Who are the good teachers? Who are the teachers to avoid? What is the benefit of being in Algreba I Honors vs Algebra I? What happens if you don't want to take Algebra at all?
