Bring a Trailer - keep an eye on their auctions and you’ll find what you’re looking for.

They might run forever, but everything in them will shake, and that would drive me insane. Americans don’t make luxurious cars. It’s a truck.

I’ve had an 03 Suburban 3500 and a 09 Tahoe. Both were great when I owned them, especially the heavy duty version of the Suburban, which they stopped making in maybe 15?

They have a known issue with brake line corrosion in places where the roads are salted, so if you find one you like, be sure and check the brake lines.

Honestly, they’ll run forever if you take care of them, and they’re not super expensive to fix when they need work, and just about any place can work on them.

The interiors are the standard crappy GM interiors, but whatever, it’s a GM, what were you expecting?

They’re decent for towing small to medium trailers like boats, car trailers, horse trailers and smaller-sized RV trailers. Avoid RV trailers over 20 feet though.

Toss up for engines, usually it’s a 5.3L, 5.7L or 6.0L V8, depending on the version, 5.3L V8 is probably the most common.

Gas mileage isn’t great - but on the highway, if you know how to drive o maximize mileage, you can typically get low 20’s on trips on flat terrain.

Tons of room inside. TONS. My Suburban was amazing. Could put the ear seats down and have plenty of room to sleep on an air mattress, which I had to do regularly because I was working at remote drilling sites out in west Texas and would often be 5 hours from home many days.

They’re decent vehicles.

I'm thinking of buying a used Tahoe. I want something bigger and a little safer than my current smaller SUV. We normally buy new but prices are so high these days that I prefer not to. Would you do it - why or why not?

Also, what is the best way to find a good used Tahoe? I'm willing to check out vehicles that come off of government fleets. Has anyone done this and can you share your experience?

Also appreciate your feedback if you've owned a Tahoe - maintenance expenses, reliability, what I can expect in terms of longevity, what their strengths and weaknesses are.

Thank you, all.
